December Birthstone Blue Topaz

A Piece of December Sky I designed this pendant specifically for those born in December. While there are a few stones for the month, I’ve always felt that the cool, icy blue of Topaz perfectly captures that end-of-year feeling. I paired it with solid brass because the golden, sun-like glow of the metal makes the blue of the stone look even brighter.

•  Blue Topaz is the ultimate December stone. It’s believed to bring calm, clear communication, and a sense of peace to the wearer.
• Topaz is a very hard gemstone (8 on the Mohs scale). It’s tough and scratch-resistant, which makes it a great choice for a necklace you never want to take off.

• Brass naturally deepens in color over time (it develops a lovely "antique" look). If you want to bring back that bright golden shine I gave it in the studio, just give it a quick rub with a soft polishing cloth or a tiny bit of lemon juice and water.
• I always recommend putting your jewellery on after you’ve applied perfumes, hairsprays, or lotions. This keeps the stone clear and the metal bright.
• If the Blue Topaz looks a bit dull from daily wear, just use warm, soapy water and a soft toothbrush to gently clean behind the stone. It will sparkle like new again.
• When you aren't wearing it, try to keep your pendant in a dry place or a little jewellery pouch. This slows down the natural oxidation of the brass and keeps it from scratching.
